Bereavement care

At Zoë’s Place, we can offer specialist care for families and children post death, irrespective of whether you accessed our hospice for end-of-life care specifically.

That’s because we work closely with local hospital teams and funeral directors to ensure that wishes of a peaceful resting place are fulfilled.

Bereavement suite

All our hospices have a special cooled room in which we can facilitate the care of a child who has passed. This sits alongside a family suite for bereaved families to stay in – at which you’ll be supported by our hospice team.

During this meaningful, quality time, parents and carers can also inform us of their wishes and preferences (including any religious and spiritual needs)

If a child passes away during their time at Zoë’s Place, families can use our on site bereavement suites. They are:

Coventry – The Starlight SuiteĀ

Liverpool – The Snowdrop SuiteĀ

Middlesbrough – The Rainbow SuiteĀ

Parents flat

Each suite differs very slightly, but all have a specialist cool room, bed, television, kitchen, lounge area and storage drawers/cupboards. Families are welcome to stay in these suites while arrangements are being made with funeral directors and churches etc.

Staff will also be on hand to offer support, bereavement care and general advice.

Legacy building

Legacy building is capturing memories that will live on after the loss of a child. We will provide a keepsake book where you can choose different keepsakes to help with memory making. These include memory boxes, canvases, arts and crafts and other memory making items.

Sibling support

A loss of a child is a very emotionally difficult time for the whole family including siblings. Children, just like adults, need to be given the opportunity to express their feelings as they will be going through their own grief.

We offer pre and post bereavement support for siblings which includes emotional support in one-on-one sessions, memory making activities, developmentally appropriate education of diagnosis and loss, support for teachers, resources such as books and appropriate referrals when needed.
