Sibling support

Caring for a child with complex needs can be difficult for the whole family, and so we like to make sure that no one is left out here at ZoĆ«’s Place.

Below, you will find the different ways we support the child’s siblings…

One to one sibling support

Individual emotional support is available to the siblings of children who use, or have used, the hospice.

When confronted with the illness of a brother or sister, children often find it difficult to deal with the emotions that come with this and often feel guilt, anger, pain and other strong feelings. Honest information and developmentally appropriate education is very important to help deal with these emotions as well as having a safe space to express them. One to one session can be arranged via our play services.

Sibling days out

Caring for a child with complex needs can be difficult for the whole family, so at Zoë’s Place we host a number of sibling days throughout the year.

The aim of these days is for siblings in similar situations to develop mutually supportive relationships, feel supported by each other and ZoĆ«’s Place staff and most of all, just be a child and have fun. These days are for children aged 5-15 and, in the past, have included bowling, cinema, trampolining, football, ice skating, go karting, in-house parties and many more activities.

Family events

Zoë’s Place also offers multiple family events throughout the year which include parties, barbeques, ice skating and other events in the local community. These days are a great opportunity for families to get together and connect with other families in similar situations.

Families also get to have experiences that they may not always get to experience and try out new activities for their child.
